Researchers from the USA have found out that if a cat is offered a choice between “free” food and performing a task for a treat, it will choose the easiest way. This may not seem surprising at first glance, but experts say that this feline peculiarity is unique, as most animals believe that a treat must be “earned”.
Experts studied the behaviour of 17 cats. They were offered a choice between a puzzle with a treat and a regular tray of food. The puzzle allowed them to see the treat, but required tricks to retrieve it. Interestingly, a number of the animals that took part in the experiment had experience with similar tasks.
