Startup Eazeye was founded by 17-year-old inventor Lui Huang, who was looking for a low-cost alternative to existing monitors without the active screen glow that tires his eyes. For want of one, and since e-ink displays cost from $1700, he developed his own design. His device costs $545 and so far is only in the form of a working prototype.
The Eazeye has a semi-transparent base screen with a sunlight reflector behind it. It also has an active backlight for night or bad weather conditions. The device consumes only 5W of power, has a 24-inch diagonal, 1080p resolution and a maximum frequency of 75Hz.
